Open: 7:15a.m. — 5:45 p.m.

Program: Full-day care for infants and toddlers.

History: Also known as “Baby House,” this center opened in September, 1985 at the request of parents from the original Gretchen’s House who needed care for their preschoolers’ younger siblings. It’s just around the corner from Gretchen’s House-Mount Vernon. The yard is deep and shady. Teachers use strollers, wagons, and front packs to take their children for walks around the neighborhood and to nearby parks. When children are ready for preschool, they’re eager to graduate to “Big House” across the street.

Meet Our Director: Mt. Pleasant Director Julie Morrison earned a bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Teaching at Michigan State University and has taken graduate classes in Reading at Eastern Michigan University. Julie first began working at Gretchen’s House in 1984. She has been a Head Preschool Teacher at GH and at the Pinckney Community Education Center, as well as running her own home child care centers in Ann Arbor and Seattle. Since 2006, Julie has led the GH Mt. Pleasant through National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) reaccreditation, helped create the design for the center’s 2007 renovation and is currently working on becoming certified in the High/Scope Infant/Toddler Curriculum Program. Julie is on the Gretchen’s House “Green Committee.” She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, photography, playing with her two dogs and watching her three children play piano, saxophone and soccer.
