Program: Full-day care for infants and toddlers.
History: Also known as “Baby House,” this center opened in September, 1985 at the request of parents from the original Gretchen’s House who needed care for their preschoolers’ younger siblings. It’s just around the corner from Gretchen’s House-Mount Vernon. The yard is deep and shady. Teachers use strollers, wagons, and front packs to take their children for walks around the neighborhood and to nearby parks. When children are ready for preschool, they’re eager to graduate to “Big House” across the street.
Meet the Director: Chrissy McKiddie has been the Director at Gretchen House Mt. Pleasant since January 2013. Chrissy has been with Gretchen’s House since 1998 working in various positions. She was the Lead Infant/Toddler teacher at the Traver Rd location and Preschool/Young Fives teacher at Mt. Vernon. She was also the Program Director at the Dhu Varren center for eight years. Chrissy has her Bachelor’s degree of Science in Preschool/Family Life Studies from Northern Michigan University . At home Chrissy is wife to David and mother to Emily and Cameron. Chrissy enjoys reading and vacationing “up north” in her spare time, which is very limited with two kids in sports. Chrissy is a swim, baseball, football, and marching band mom!
