Programs: Full-day preschool, morning preschool, and young fives programs; afternoon care for public school kindergartners; before and after school care for schoolage children from Eberwhite Elementary.

History: This is where it all began! The first Gretchen’s House Child Care Center opened at this location in September, 1982. On a sunny corner lot in a quiet, cozy Westside neighborhood, this center is within walking distance of several local parks, an elementary school, and a nature area.

Meet Our Director: Mt. Vernon Director Deb Oswalt has been with Gretchen’s House since 2007. She has a bachelor’s degree in Child Development with a minor in Sociology, and an Associate’s Degree in Social Work. Her past work experience includes Head Teacher and Program Coordinator of a Young Fives Program, Cooperative Preschool Teacher for 3, 4, and 5 year-olds, Children’s Program Coordinator for children’s program (ages birth to 8 years) at a Homeless Facility for Wayne County, and teacher at a school for gifted children. Deb has also been a professional storyteller. In her spare time, she likes to read, listen to music, garden and birdwatch.
