History: In the fall of 1990, the Washtenaw Intermediate School District asked Gretchen to open a Gretchen’s House center for their employees at High Point School on Wagner Road. GH-W.I.S.D. is a modern, attractive facility and shares some spaces with Honey Creek Charter School and High Point, including a spacious gym, a gathering area, and small group rooms for special activities. Outdoor spaces include two separate playgrounds, wide open fields for walks, and beautiful gardens for exploration and discovery.
Meet Our Director: W.I.S.D. Director Christine Snyder earned a bachelor’s degree in Child Development from Madonna University and an Associate’s degree in Professional Child Care from Washtenaw Community College. Christine has been with Gretchen’s House since July of 2001. She worked as a Building Resource Teacher, an Infant/Toddler teacher, a Head Teacher, a Program Director, and was the I/T Master Teacher before becoming Center Director of GH WISD in October of 2007. Christine has been active in the Parent Advisory Group, facilitates Gretchen’s House Trainings, and presents workshops at state and national Early Childhood Conferences. Christine is a certified High/Scope trainer and has also led her center through National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) reaccreditation. In her free time she enjoys reading, writing, watching movies, canoeing, and spending time with her beagle puppy. Interested in a tour? E-mail us!
Please note: Because it is located with the W.I.S.D. facilities, this house varies from the other Ann Arbor Gretchen’s Houses on a few important points: tuition and the inclement weather policy.
