BUILDING RESOURCE TEACHERS
Hi! My name is Linda Alvira. I am the Building Resource Teacher (BRT) for The Baby House & The Big House. I have a BFA from the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, and was as a Graphic Designer at U of M for 20 years. I also have my K-12 teaching certification in Art from Eastern Michigan University. I spent 5 years as a substitute teacher in all subjects and grade levels, and as a long-term art sub in elementary school. I think of everything as an adventure! I have done Pet Therapy, art lessons in my home, been a visiting summer school librarian, had my own story hour, and helped illustrate a multicultural art book for teachers. I always come back to working with children! I live on the west side of Ann Arbor with my husband Don, a Graphic Designer, a sweet but hairy 75 lb lap dog, and a very odd black cat. Our wonderful and awesome daughter is finishing her PhD and living in Bethesda, MD. Linda
Hello, I am Mahari Reives and I am excited to join the Gretchen House staff as a Building Resource Teacher! I recently graduated from Washtenaw Community College with an Associates degree in Child Care Professionals. I also have over two years of experience as a teacher assistant at a local child care center where I worked with infants, toddlers, and preschool aged children. I enjoy reading, watching movies (especially musicals), and doing volunteer ministry work with my congregation. I look forward to getting to know all the families at Mt Pleasant and Mt Vernon and hope to positively contribute to each child’s experience.
AFTERNOON TEACHERS
Jody Jones  Hello! My name is Jody Jones and I am the morning school-age/afternoon preschool teacher at Mt. Vernon. I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2001 with a bachelors degree in Human Services and have been babysitting, working in childcare centers and volunteering in schools since the age of thirteen. When I’m not at Gretchen’s House you’ll find me happily spending time with my two teenage sons. My passions are learning, reading, poetry, music, movies, tea, philosophy and art. I am thankful to be working with kids because I get to be creative, laugh a lot, celebrate the little things in life, plus it keeps me thinking and learning, and you get a ton of exercise! I am very excited to be a part of the Gretchen’s House community!
Afternoon Teacher Carson Boron graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2010 with a Bachelors in Communication and a minor in Writing. A believer of experiential and exploitative learning, Carson made it an intention to travel as much as possible after graduating college. Her passion for growth, travel and discovery led her to many different adventures and opportunities all over the world. Her most recent adventures include the completion of her 500 hr Yoga Teacher Training certification in India as well as the completion of a historical pilgrimage across Spain called the El Camino de Santiago, in which she spent over 30 days walking from the border of France all the way to Portugal. Aside from the experience and growth Carson has gained through travel, she has also served in two different AmeriCorps programs as a way to give back and help build strong, resilient communities. In 2014, while serving in her second AmeriCorps program, Carson worked as a 2nd grade Youth Gardening Instructor and discovered her passion for working with children. She is repeatedly impressed by the resiliency that children intrinsically possess and embody, as well as their ability to stay present. She believes that children are the true teachers. Carson is so grateful to be a part of the team at Gretchen’s House and looks forward to a life-long journey of growth and discovery.
