History: Gretchen’s House-Traver opened in the Fall of 1991. It comprises three buildings: a main building which has infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms; a cottage, which houses the morning toddler, morning preschool, and school-age programs, and a barn, which houses the kindergarten program and a large gym and gathering room. GH-Traver is situated in an established neighborhood convenient to many major Ann Arbor employers. It’s on a quiet street and is within walking distance of several city parks and Leslie Science Center. There are three separate playgrounds: one for infants and toddlers, one for preschoolers, and one for young fives and schoolage children.
Meet the Director: Emily Frisk graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2009, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education with a major in Language Arts and a minor in Early Childhood Education. Since then she has been working with young children both as a teacher in infant and toddler classrooms as well as a Center Director. Emily has been working with Gretchen’s house since 2014. She previously worked at the Mt. Pleasant location as the Head Infant Toddler Teacher before becoming the Center Director at Mt. Vernon. In her spare time Emily enjoys traveling, baking and spending time outdoors with her husband, three children and her Chihuahua Maggie.
