Gretchen's House Child Care Centers

Handouts from our NAEYC '08 sessions are  here.

I never thought I'd say it is a pleasure to drop my kids off at childcare, but it is. I drive off to work knowing that my kids are not merely waiting for my return, but learning, growing, and thriving at Gretchen's House.

OPEN: 7:15a.m. -- 5:45 p.m.

AGES:This center serves 20 children ages 6 weeks -- 3 years.

PROGRAM: Full-day care for infants and toddlers.

HISTORY: Also known as "Baby House," this center opened in September, 1985 at the request of parents from Gretchen's-Mt. Vernon who needed care for their preschoolers' younger siblings. It's just around the corner from Gretchen's House-Mount Vernon. The yard is deep and shady. Teachers use strollers, wagons, and front packs to take their children for walks around the neighborhood and to nearby parks. When children are ready for preschool, they're eager to graduate to "Big House" across the street.

MEET THE DIRECTOR:  Julie Morrison earned her Bachelors Degree in Child Development and Teaching at Michigan State University and has taken graduate classes in Reading at Eastern Michigan University. She first began working at Gretchen's House in 1984. Julie has worked as a Head Preschool Teacher both at Gretchen's House and at the Pinckney Community Education Center. She ran her own home childcare center while living in Seattle, Washington as well as being involved with the West Seattle Cooperative Preschool. Julie spent three years working for the Ann Arbor Public Schools before becoming the director at Mt Pleasant in December, 2006. Julie enjoys spending time with her family,  reading and watching her three children play piano, saxophone and soccer.
