Summer Camp
About
Our Summer Camp or SCamp program is a full-day program for children who have completed kindergarten through fourth grade. The program runs eleven weeks during the summer months; families may sign up for one to eleven weeks of care, two or more days per week. The first and last weeks of camp are reserved for children who are attending at least three other weeks of camp. Registration begins in March.
Our summer camp program provides opportunities for school age children to explore and follow their intentions and ideas. In SCamp we intentionally prioritize and support children in spending time in ways that are interesting and meaningful to them. This control and choice help to promote self-management, self-awareness, and responsible decision-making. Research is clear that these key self-regulation skills are the foundation for successful learning and social emotional well-being.
As we do with our school age care during the school year, we use the research based Weikart Center for Youth Quality Assessment tool for Social Emotional Learning to help guide us in creating a high-quality learning environment for our school age children.
SCamp is a safe, fun, and educational home-away-from home where kids spend time with their peers as they explore local attractions, do themed exploration activities at the center, and go to the pool, library, and local parks. The teacher-to-child ratio for most activities is 1:10. Children are transported in Gretchen’s House vehicles.
